Nun Abuse Claims  

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse reported that overall, 4,445 claimants alleged incidents of child sexual abuse in 4,765 reported claims to Catholic Church authorities of which nine per cent were received by female religious orders with religious sister members. This accounted for nine per cent which were received by female religious orders with religious sister members and for 28 per cent of the total number of Catholic Church authorities that received claims of child sexual abuse.

In relation to alleged perpetrators, the Royal Commission disclosed that of the total of 1,880 alleged perpetrators (diocesan and religious priests, religious brothers, religious sisters, lay employees, or volunteers) were identified in claims of child sexual abuse, 96 were religious’ sisters (five per cent of all known alleged perpetrators).
