Brisbane Grammar School
Brisbane Grammar is a prestigious independent, non-denominational day and boarding school for boys. It is located in Spring Hill near the Brisbane CBD. The school was established in 1868. It currently caters for approximately 1,600 students from years 5 to 12, including 100 boarders.
During the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, Brisbane Grammar School was given special attention due to the numerous allegations the school has received over child sexual abuse. This has been in particular to the offences committed by Mr. Kevin Lynch who was school counsellor at Brisbane Grammar between 1973 and 1988. Mr. Lynch was eventually charged by Queensland Police Service, but evaded justice in the courts by committing suicide. In the end, the school was been greatly criticised and reproached for its protection and cover up of Kevin Lynch’s behaviour.
