Edmund Rice College

 

Edmund Rice College commenced in 1926 in Crown Lane, Wollongong making it one of the oldest Schools in the Illawarra. The College began as Christian Brothers’ College (CBC). In 1962 the school partially moved to West Wollongong on Mount Keira Road after the College had purchase 9 hectares of land to build a new campus for Years 9 to 12. By 1975 the College completely moved to the West Wollongong campus where the College has remained there to the present day.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has identified Edmund Rice College as being involved in incidents of child sexual abuse. One of main offenders has been Brother John Vincent Roberts who was charged and sentenced in 2016 in the West Wollongong Local Court for abuses that occurred in the late 1980’s.
