Brother John Francis Hallett

Brother John Francis Hallett is a member of the Christian Brothers who has served both in the Northern Territory and Queensland for the Order. In 1993, Brother John Hallett (then aged 46) was sentenced to five years jail for for committing gross indecency in accordance of s.127(1)(b) of the Criminal Code Act 1983 (NT) against two boys under the age 14 when he was principal at St. Xavier Boys’ School at Nguiu in the Tiwi Islands of the coast of Darwin. He successfully appealed his conviction which was quashed by the Northern Territory Criminal Court of Appeal due to alleged defects in the jury trial. The alleged abuse happened in the 1980s.

Research online shows that following the investigations by Northern Territory Police, Brother John Hallet moved to a retreat and later to St Joseph’s Nudgee College in Brisbane where he was involved in the property and services department at the School. He had not contact with students at Nudgee College.

Moody Law has in the past represented and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse against various members of the Christian Brothers.
