Brother Luke Beltram
Brother Luke Beltram was a former member of the De La Salle Brothers who died in 2000 at the age of 53. Brother Beltram was a teaching brother who taught at the following schools throughout his career:
St John’s Regional College - Dandenong, Victoria;
De La Salle College - Dubbo, NSW;
De La Salle Caringbah - Sydney, Victoria;
De La Salle College - Malvern, Victoria;
St James Regional College - Bentleigh East, Victoria; and
Oak Hill College - Castle Hill, NSW.
It is reported that allegations of sexual abuse have been made against Brother Luke Beltram when he taught at St John’s Regional College in the early 1970s. The allegations involve the physical and sexual abuse of a 14 year student of the school who was often visited by Brother Luke at his family home and would spend time with the student behind closed doors in his bedroom. On one occasion, the student returned from a school camp severely bruised where he reported being physically abused by Brother Luke.
Around 2000, further allegations of sexual abuse where reported against Brother Luke Beltram in relation to his time at Oak Hill College in the north-western suburbs of Sydney. The abuse was perpetrated by Brother Luke on a former student of the school who approached the Catholic Church Professional Standards Resource Group and who seemed unwilling to help the victim to the extent of sending a private investigator to investigate the matter and who treated the victim in a intimidating and unfriendly manner.
