Brother Bartholomew Spratt

Peter Richard Spratt was born 2 August 1937. Upon joining the Marist Brothers, he adopted the religious name of Brother ”Bartholomew". Brother Bartholomew Spratt taught at the following schools in NSW and ACT:

In 1996 he pleaded guilty to two acts of indecency against a 14-year-old Marist College Canberra boy. The offences where committed in 1979 at a Marist Brothers’ residence at, Byron Bay, NSW, and at a holiday centre in Jindabyne, NSW. Consequently, Brother Spratt was only placed on a $2,000, two-year good-behaviour bond.

A magistrate at Cooma Local Court in southern New South Wales placed Peter Richard Spratt on a $2,000, two-year good-behaviour bond.

The Royal Commission during its investigations into institutional child sexual abuse in Australia heard from a former victim of Brother Spratt who described him as being vindictive and abusive.
