Brother David Austin Christian

Brother David Austin Christian (born 3 December 1942) is a Marist Brother who has been charged and found guilty in Western Australia over allegations dating between 1982 to the 1990s at the following schools:

1995

In 1995, Brother David Christian pleaded guilty to multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault against two boys (aged 10 and 11) while he was principal at Newman Junior College. He was fined by the Court (which was paid by the Marist Brothers) and later moved to Templestowe in Victoria, still part of the Marist Brothers.

2014

In 2014, Brother David Christian was convicted of one count of indecently dealing with a child (a ten-year-old boy). The offence was committed in 1982 at St Joseph's Parish Primary School when he was principal at the school. This time he was given a nine months suspended jail sentence.

Early - 2017

In January 2017, Brother David Christian was convicted of two new offences of indecently dealing with a another child (a ten-year-old boy). This abuse was committed in 1982 again at St Joseph's Parish Primary School.

Brother David Christian was sentenced to 16 months jail for each of the two incidents, with each reduced consequently reduced to 12 months, to be served consecutively, making a total of two years, with parole possible after 12 months.

Late - 2017

While in jail, another of victim of Brother David Christian spoke to Western Australia Police regarding two incidents that occurred in 1991 at Newman Junior College when the boy was aged 12 in Year 7. The student was “incredibly vulnerable” student who was being bullied at the time and Brother David Christian took advantage of that vulnerability in his office more than 25 years ago.

Brother David Christian (then aged 75) pleaded guilty in the W.A. District Court to two incidents of indecently dealing with this boy. He was sentenced to an additional six months jail.
