Brother George Taylor

Brother George Taylor (whose real name was Albert Matthew Taylor) was a former teacher and member of the De La Salle Brothers. He was born in 1914 in Brunswick, Melbourne and became a trainee priest around 1930. In 1934, Brother George finished his training and started his religious career as a fully pledged brother serving at the following known institutions (amongst others probably):

  • De La Salle Revesby - Revesby, Sydney (around 1967);

  • De La Salle Orange - Orange, NSW (around 1969 to 1973); and

  • St Michael’s College - Henley Beach, Adelaide (around the late 1970s).

By the 1990s, Brother George was living in retirement at Southport, Queensland in a De La Salle home for former brothers. He passed away in 2008.

Criminal Trial

Around 1995, a former student of De La Salle Revesby made allegations to NSW Police accusing Brother George of sexually abusing him in 1967 when the student was aged 11 at the time. The allegations proceeded to the Downing District Court in Sydney on the 8 August 1995 where Brother George (aged 79) pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the former student on two occasions and was placed on a three-year good behaviour bond due to his bad health and his elderly age.

Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse against members of the De La Salle Brothers at various schools and institutions around Australia.
