Brother John Dyson

Brother John Dyson was a member of the Marist Brothers who taught at various schools in New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Northern Territory. They include the following:

It is reported that when Brother Dyson was principal at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Alice Springs, a mother of one of the students complained to the vicar-general of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, Monsignor Gerald Cudmore, that Brother Dyson had abused her child. It is further reported that subsequently Monsignor Cudmore covered up the crime thus allowing Brother Dyson to continue as principal of the School.

In 1997, Brother Dyson (then aged 47) pleaded guilty in Seymour Magistrates Court in central Victoria to charges of having indecently assauled three boys, aged 12 to 14, in the 1980s. The three boys were boarders at Assumption College where Brother Dyson was teacher and coordinator. It should be noted also, that Brother Dyson assaulted the boys on numerous occasions at the School and when two of the boys visited him in Western Australia and the Northern Territory on individual, separate occasions.

Moody Law has in the past and is still representing clients who have made allegations of sexual and physical abuse against members of the Marist Brothers at various schools and institutions around Australia.
