Father David Rapson

Father David Rapson was born on 30 July 1953 in Melbourne, Victoria. He completed his primary and secondary studies at schools run by the Salesians of Don Bosco where he would eventually join the order himself as part of their clergy.

Throughout his teaching and religious career, Father David Rapson taught at the following schools:

Father Rapson has been involved in allegations and cases dealing with child sexual abuse at some of the schools he has taught/served at. In 1992, Father Rapson appeared in the Melbourne Magistrate Court charged with five incidents of indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy at Rupertswood to which he pleaded guilty. He was given a jail sentence of 2 years. In 2013, Father Rapson was again charged by Victoria Police for offences committed against eight schoolboys between 1973 and 1990. The charges included five counts of rape and eight of indecent assault. In 2015, he was found guilty of five charges of rape and six of indecent assault, committed against six boys between the 1970s and 1990s. A jury acquitted Rapson regarding another boy on the ground that there was insufficient evidence. He was consequently sentenced to a maximum of twelve-and-a-half years jail. He will be eligible to apply for parole in 2025.
