St Joseph's Nudgee College

St Joseph’s Nudgee College (commonly referred to as Nudgee or Nudgee College) is a private, Roman Catholic located in Boondall, Brisbane. Nudgee College currently caters for approximately 1600 students from Years 5 to 12, including 300 boarders. The school began in 1891 as the boarding campus for St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Spring Hill, thus sharing the same name. Its actual location was chosen by the founder of the Australian Province of the Christian Brothers, Brother Patrick Ambrose Treacy. In 1938, the Christian Brothers established a separate campus in Indooroopilly for Nudgee Junior College. In 2015, it was renamed Ambrose Treacy College.

Nudgee College like many other Christian Brothers schools around Australia has been embroiled in allegations dealing with child sexual and physical abuse by some of its former staff. This includes former headmaster Brother John Regan who is alleged to have physically abused two brothers at the Junior college when they were boarders in the 1970s. Other former students/boarders have also made allegations of being sexually and physically abused by Brother Michael Carthage Proctor who was also a former headmaster, teacher, dormitory and sports master at both Nudgee Junior and Senior colleges.

Moody Law is currently representing various clients who have made allegations of being sexually and physically abused by Brother Proctor while they were students/boarders at Nudgee College in the 1960s and 70s.

We invite former victims to tell us confidentially what information they may have, and we will explain what options are available to help with these cases.
